PIEL Y TIERRA

We arrived on a typical cloudy, sunny Sunday afternoon. I asked the gentleman sitting next to me if he wouldn't mind opening the shade for me. I could not resist watching the airplane landing in the beautiful "Sabana de Bogota." I couldn't miss looking at the patchy green lands of the flower crops, the white and plastic greenhouses of roses and astromelias, and the red brick walls of the farmer houses. 

While landing, we smiled, and my eyes got watery upon approximation to Bogota, as they always have since I left Colombia 12 years ago. And then, the folkloric clamping during landing that Colombian passengers always do celebrates the arrival to the land of magical realism, Colombia.

COLOMBIA LA TIERRA QUE NO OLVIDO

Colombia has so many exciting things. Something hard to describe and that one can only feel while spending time there. 

It is a mix between imperfection, happiness, authenticity, and exclusiveness... I missed this cocktail. In this post, I would like to share some pictures I took in December 2003. A few months before my grandmother passed away. These are images from a trip I took in Colombia while JC was in Iraq.

EL PLACER DEL SILENCIO

He aprendido a descubrir el placer del silencio. Que en mis ratos libres, que son pocos una vez se tienen un hijo, prefiero caminar despacio para ver, quedarme quieta para poder hacer. Hay muchas cosas por aprender, muchos detalles por capturar y muchas acciones por realizar. He aprendido a quedarme quieta en el silencio de mi espacio, y reaccionar solo a las fiestas necesarias.

DISEÑO Y ARTESANÍA

LA ARTESANIA EN EL CONTINENTE

La artesanía en Latinoamérica es un recurso muy rico por su forma y contenido. Sector único que integra aspectos de carácter formal, socio/cultural, económico y ecológico. Mi visión como diseñadora es utilizar el diseño como un  medio de creación, que considera los cuatro aspectos mencionados, para fortalecer el oficio artesanal como fuente de ingresos económicos y de esta manera fortalecer la comunidad, mantener tradiciones y atraer la mirada global hacia oficios y mundos locales.

El sector de la artesanía  comparte muchas similitudes y también un sector con muchas particularidades. La artesanía puede ser artesanía urbana, artesanía rural y artesanía indígena. En algunos casos estas categorías se mezclan. Al consideran estas diferencias la asesoría de diseño varia.

La artesanía cuenta historias, la artesanía es legado, el mismo oficio puede ser practicado por jóvenes o ancianos, la artesanía atrae turismo, si el turismo se ve afectado la artesanía puede morir. Y viceversa. La artesanía es una fuente de empleo e ingresos legales para comunidades, al fortalecer la artesanía se fortalecen pueblos.
